Big in Germany

For some reason 20 Minutes, a German news site with a Chinese domain, decided to blurb Rate My Dance Moves. I didn’t get much extra traffic from them yesterday. However, it coincided with a ten-fold increase in Adsense revenue. I think it also supports an SEO theory I was having before I went to bed last night. Rate My Dance Moves has a far better clickthru rate than any of my other sites. It’s also the only site where I’m running ads in the space where you would normally find a left navigation bar. So last night I wondered if a large number of users were clicking on the ads simply because they are trained to look for links in the left sidebar. Today I have hard numbers.

One in six German speakers can’t tell the difference between a left navigation bar and an adblock. Has anyone heard of a better adsense strategy? You can be sure I’ll be submitting to the German version of Digg, it’s YiGG.de.

Interview with Mark Mangano of Salesforce Watch and Scott Hemmeter of Perspectives on Salesforce

Mark Mangano is the author of Sales Force Watch, the top blog for independent Sales Force News, and Scott Hemmeter is the author of the Perspectives on Salesforce blog and also a successful Salesforce consultant.

I was at the Dreamforce ’06 Conference investigating AppExchange, Saleforce.com’s 3rd party development and distribution platform because I was curious about opportunities for lone consultants and very small companies to produce software for the business web.

Scott and Mark were kind enough to talk to me about how many of the barriers to entry have dropped and how easy it is to get started in this world.
