Web 2.0 Tagging Panel

Thursday, October 6th, 2005

Tantek does a good job of summarizing the tagging panel and what people are saying about it.

Caterina, Josh, Tantek and Jeff were the big names on the panel. I was there to talk about O’Reilly’s use of del.icio.us data as a way to relate content and measure importance (more here). We’re pretty thrilled with the instant folskonomy that we get from del.icio.us.

Tagging also solves a non-technical implementation problem for me. Getting agreement on what goes into a drop down list can take weeks of calendar time. And we’ll probably get it wrong. So screw it, let’s save ourselves some time and let the customer tell us the values. They know better anyway.
